Tips for ACT students

Understand your baseline and areas of improvement
Everyone starts at a different baseline when taking the ACT, so it’s important to take a diagnostic test to see where you’re at. Give yourself 60 minutes and take a practice test - if you book a session with an ACT Math tutor, we’ll provide the materials and proctor the test for you. We’ll then assess areas of improve, whether it’s specific math topics, or a time management issue.

Practice, practice, and practice. Fill knowledge gaps and identify common errors
Once you’ve identified areas of improvement with your ACT tutor, it’s time to practice, practice, and practice. However, what’s just as important as practicing is going over questions you’ve answered incorrectly and asking yourself what went wrong. Don’t settle for making the same mistake twice - your Gooroo tutor will identify common errors and walk you through the content you need to know to answer questions and explain strategic ways to avoid those errors, whether it’s based on a careless mistake or the wording of a tricky problem. Take time to write about and reflect on the reasons behind your mistakes.

Memorize formulas and facts
The ACT, unlike the SAT, doesn’t allow students to use formula sheets during the test, so it’s crucial to understand the concepts behind and memorize any formulas related to topics you’ll be tested on.
