Recipes for Dinner: Easy and Delicious
We’ve all been there. After working-from-home all day you’ve now dragged yourself to kitchen for your end of day meal. The questions is: what do you cook? Obviously it’s important to fill your body with the nutrients it needs but you also don’t want to be busy at the stove for hours on end. In today’s blog, we’ll talk about some important basic ingredients you should have on hand for your evening meal, how to read the instructions you’re making your dish from, and some ideas for delicious and easy recipes for dinner.
Important Basics
Here are some essential ingredients to have at the ready in your kitchen.
- Salt. Helps to season the food and binds certain ingredients together — particularly meat.
- Pepper. Offer bitter tones — a companion to slat.
- Olive Oil. Can come in a variety of different flavours. It helps to stop the food sticking to the pan. Olive oil is the much needed “fat” of any recipe.
Spices
- Red Chilli Flakes. Adds a kick to your dish.
- Coriander. A tart, citrusy taste. Found in a lot of recipes.
- Paprika. A sweet pepper flavour that adds a vibrant red colour.
- Oregano. An earthy leaf that mellows when cooked.
- Turmeric. A necessary ingredient of curry power it has a pungent, bitter taste.
- Bay Leaves. Traditionally removed before eating, they add a minty tree pine heaviness.
- Cayenne Pepper. The strongest spice on this list from being ground from a super spicy chilli.
- Thyme. Gives a slightly sour delicate flavour.
- Cinnamon. Has a distinct spicy-sweet aroma that can be utilised in both sweet and savoury dishes.
How to Read Recipes for Dinner
- Equipment. Make sure you have the required equipment needed to create the dish. Or, that you know the work-around for any equipment you don’t have.
- Ingredients. Check that you have all the pantry and dry goods that the recipe demands.
- Clock the order of steps. See what needs to be done at what time and how much prep is best to do before the main bulk of the cooking.
Other Tips
- A lot of good cooking comes down to timing. Keep an eye on the clock and set timers if need be.
- If you have the capacity, try to tidy if you go. If the recipe is very hands on, try to keep you work space as clean as possible by using additional bowls and boards as waste areas.
Easy and Delicious Recipes
Here are some ideas for easy and delicious meals! Perfect for week-days or lazy weekends.
One-Pot-Recipes.
These dishes call for one pot and a little time management (although some have all the ingredients cooking for the same time). Simply add the ingredients when the recipe calls for them and you’ll have a perfect dinner in no time. Plus, you only have one pan to wash up!
Put in the oven and leave.
This is a slightly slower burner, but also just as simple. Fill an oven pan with all your favourite proteins, veg, and carbs. Put it into a heated oven, wait 30-60 minutes, then eat! Again, very little washing up required for very tasty results.
