Online Learning: Teacher to Gooroo Instructor
When you resign from the New York City Department of Education to be an e-learning instructor, you get a lot of questions — too many “why would you do that?” instead of “congratulations” or “good for you.” I don’t know what I was expecting to hear when I did resign, but I was not afraid to cross that bridge. I was confident that I would find a path that felt right for a 2020 world, and of course, what was best for me.
Unlock Each Students Potential
Do not get me wrong, teachers are one of the most valuable professions right now, and a huge part of me felt guilty being one more that left, but what drove me was this mission of “unlocking each student’s potential.” When I met Nick and Scott, there was no doubt in my mind that this path would not only allow me to unlock my potential but would allow me to unlock thousands of students’ potentials. I also believed in the people at Gooroo. Scott’s reaction to my story was not, “why would you do that,” but “That is bold, I admire that.”
Making the Switch to E-Learning
Of course, this new world has shifted everything and has forced us all to reimagine and rethink education. Gooroo is a leader in e-learning. What I felt passionate about with Gooroo from day one was the true belief in each person. The instructors at Gooroo are nothing short of impressive, intelligent, and remarkable, but what I love most about them is they show us that we each hold skills, and our knowledge is power. Gooroo reminds us that we have to believe in ourselves and our success. Gooroo instructors and staff are role models for what it means to be successful. They are brave, courageous, intelligent, passionate, hard-working, and motivated. They strive to unlock everyone’s potential.
Student Success Always Comes First
As a former teacher in the department of education, I spent five years working tirelessly every week, and weekend. I knew it was not just my job, but my duty to provide opportunities for success and access to every single one of my students. Being a teacher, and the only adult in a classroom with close to thirty students, the dream begins to feel more and more impossible. You believe in yourself and your students, but at the end of the day, schools, teachers, students, and the public school system need more support for their learners.
The Leader In Online Learning
From my five years of experience, I know that a platform like Gooroo is that support. Gooroo was created by people who are not only experts in their field but are passionate and know where the education system fails. They have spent endless hours creating content with that goal in mind. For each course I created, I thought back to past students and imagined what video I would have loved to have in front of me as a teacher: What would have helped clarify a skill, provide a scaffold, or fill in a misunderstanding.
Gooroo provides that specific access, and this is the direction that schools and education are headed toward. Using a trustworthy site, with real, educated teachers is where we need to go.
There is no guilt comparable to the guilt of quitting teaching. Trust me. However, working for Gooroo has refueled my passion again. It reminded me why education is crucial. The people at Gooroo show their trust in you and believe in you. They allowed me to find my passion again, and they reminded me why this work is so important.
