The Art of Being Lazy
Lazy comes from “laziness” — a word meaning a reluctance to activity. While it is seen negatively throughout history, knowing how to relax is fundamental in staying healthy. So, indulge in your coach potato side with these Lazy Day ideas!
- Sleep In. Your body needs sleep in order to heal and, well, exist. But, it can be hard to ensure you’re getting enough. Allow yourself to stay longer in bed this morning.
- Dress Comfortably. Leave the business casual attire in your closet and don your favourite pyjamas. Comfort is Key.
- Set yourself up in front of the TV or a good book. Check out that show you’ve “been meaning to watch”, or enjoy re-runs of the classics. Don’t want to use technology? We have some book recommendations for each genre here.
- Treat yourself to some easy recipes or take out. It’s also the perfect time to try a new restaurant or dish.
- Take a long, hot bath. Be sure to add lots of bubbles and essential oils for maximum relaxation. Light some candles, put on some relaxing music, and chill. Additionally, you could add a soothing face mask to the mix.
- Enjoy the silence. Maybe partake in some light yoga and meditation. Or, stretch your legs with a slow amble around your neighbourhood. Conversely, you can just stay in bed and enjoy the quiet from there.
Not sure you can unwind and be lazy? Here are some tips:
- Remember you are entitled to your alone time.
- Don’t feel guilty about being lazy — instead use that energy to nurture and revitalise yourself!
- Strive for balance. Aim to achieve the right amount of responsibility and laziness.
- Use these days to help process big life events. They are incredibly comforting after stressful moments.
- Think of Lazy Days as a reward for all your hard work.
How to Re-Energise
So, you’ve spent your well-earned Lazy Day. But, how do you shake yourself out of it?
First, you want to set goals that are manageable and realistic. Don’t expect perfectionism, but instead have small accomplishments that gradually complete a larger task. Create a plan of action that is realistic about the time, effort, and strengths needed. Remember to recognise these accomplishments along the way.
Next, don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help. It’s not a sign of weakness but a sign of awareness. Additionally, you can make tedious tasks fun by listening to music or a podcast.
Next, be sure to avoid distractions by rendering them less accessible. Thus, creating an environment that is quiet. And, a workspace that blocks site you would otherwise scroll mindlessly.
Lastly, reward yourself for getting the job done. Perhaps with another Lazy Day.
