After School with Roo: Project-Based Learning

Then, look no further than our new club: After School with Roo! Fill your afternoons with creative projects that encourage your individuality and imagination!
What is After School with Roo?
If you’re looking for a way to fill your afternoon hours, this club is the place for you! Packed with creative projects that require minimal adult supervision, After School with Roo will challenge you to bring your personality to every after school activity. From homemade dog treats to gooey slime, you’re sure to make an exhilarating mess and learn a new skill. Grab some easy to find supplies, fire up your imagination, and start creating with Roo!
Following a 10-week learning plan linked to NYS Education Standards, this club adheres to the asynchronous project-based nature of our other Gooroo Clubs. Additionally, the price for materials each week is under $10!
Meet Your Gooroos
So, who will be guiding your through these creative and crafty endeavours? Meet your Gooroos Mindi V. and Ariella F. as they team up to help quell any after school boredom.
Mindi has her BS in life science, her MEd in Special Education, her PhD in Educational Leadership and is a certified K-12 teacher. She is the Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Gooroo.
Ariella is finishing up her senior year at Barnard where she will graduate with a BA in Economics. She has been tutoring for 6 years and works with students ranging in age from 6-20.
What to Expect
As we mentioned, this club breaks down into a 10-week learning plan. Check out what after activities you will be up to!
- Dog Treats. Create a yummy snack for your friends who bark! Join Mindi, Ari, and Chip in this after school activity.
- Art Outside and At Home. Get creative with items you can find in, around, and outside your home.
- Bird Treats. Let’s create a treat that will make our bird friends chirp-y! Be a friend of the animals with this fun craft.
- Milk Carton Bird Houses. You’ve made the bird treat, now make the bird house — all while being sustainable and resourceful!
- Slime Time! Make traditional old school slime and try a newer slime recipe.
- DIY Solar Ovens. Use the sun to cook some treats! Build two different kinds of solar ovens: a funnel solar oven and a pizza box solar oven.
- Mask Decoration. Using your personality and creativity, design some simple and easy decorations on an average medical mask!
- No Bake Cookie Dough. Indulge your sweet tooth learn to make safe, edible, no bake chocolate chip cookie dough.
- How to TikTok. Learn how to add music, timing, record, and post to TikTok to become a viral sensation — don’t forget to tag #Gooroo!
- Finger Knitting. Knit using just your fingers and build your project into a beautiful chained scarf.
Getting Started
Week 1 is all about dog treats. Join Mindi, Ariella, and special guest Chihuahua Chip in making no bake dog treats. Perfect for any furry friend in your life!

- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- 3 cups old fashioned oats, divided
